Converter Service Specialist - Technical Sales & Field Service (f/m/*)
What are my responsibilities?
As a Converter Service Specialist (Technical Sales & Field Service) in our department Metallurgical Services (MS AT TI), you will be part of our growing Converter Services team — expanding Primetals Technologies’ footprint in the global steelmaking market. You will act as both a technical expert and sales engineer: understanding customer needs, presenting our service solutions, and performing converter inspections, audits, and modernization activities on site. Your goal: turn technical know-how into customer value — by combining strong engineering expertise, hands-on field work, and proactive sales engagement.
Tasks and Responsibilities
1. Serve as the primary technical and technical-sales contact for converterrelated services (inspection, modernization, process audits, lifecycle management)
2. Conduct independent customer visits worldwide, presenting Primetals Technologies solutions and identifying new business opportunities
3. Perform on-site services, including mechanical inspections, condition assessments, and converter fitness checks
4. Prepare and coordinate technical offers for spare parts, inspections, and modernization projects
5. Analyze inspection results and prepare professional technical reports
6. Translate customer requirements into technical solutions and service concepts
7. Support modernization and upgrade planning, including spare parts and maintenance strategies
8. Cooperate closely with internal departments (engineering, sales, purchasing)
9. Execute supplier inspections and provide technical supervision during installation and commissioning
10. Prepare and deliver presentations and training sessions for internal teams and customers
11. Contribute to knowledge sharing and development within the converter services network
What do I need to qualify for this job?
12. Completed higher technical education (HTL/FH/University) in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or related field
13. Several years of practical experience in converter operation, maintenance, or mechanical design — ideally from a steel plant environment
14. Proven hands-on experience and readiness to perform on-site work (inspection, measurement, supervision, commissioning)
15. Strong interest or proven experience in technical sales and customer relations
16. Good understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
17. Basic knowledge of converter process and metallurgical principles advantageous
18. Knowledge of AutoCAD, NX (Unigraphics), technical drawings
19. Confident use of MS Office
20. Very good English skills, written and spoken
21. High willingness to travel internationally (approx. 20–30%)
22. Proactive, communicative, and solution-oriented personality

What else do I need to know?
The minimum annual gross salary for this position under the collective agreement and assuming that all requirements are met is EUR 47.546,94 (E/00).
