Job Overview
JS Transport Group, a proud four‑generation family‑owned and operated logistics business with over 50 years of heritage, is seeking a hands‑on Transport Operations Manager to lead our South Australian operations from the Bolivar depot.
Our core operation supports a dedicated fleet of approximately 25 local trucks delivering high‑volume, time‑critical loads every single day to a major contracted customer in the poultry industry. This is true reactive, real‑time logistics — production runs shift, customer demands change constantly, and on‑the‑day variables keep things moving fast.
We need a calm, quick‑thinking leader who embraces the pace, makes smart decisions under pressure, and stays composed no matter what the day throws at you.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage daily transport operations for our high‑volume local poultry deliveries, including real‑time scheduling, load planning, and on‑the‑fly dispatch adjustments.
Oversee depot functions — admin, customer coordination, fleet readiness — in a non‑stop, fast‑moving setting.
Supervise, mentor, and motivate drivers, operations support, and admin team to hit tight, changing timelines every day.
Serve as the primary contact for our key poultry customer, suppliers, and senior leadership.
Ensure full Chain of Responsibility (CoR), fatigue management, NHVR compliance, and safety standards are upheld.
Track performance data, identify daily inefficiencies, and roll out quick improvements to drive efficiency and cost control.
Jump in hands‑on to support dispatch, customer service, or admin during peaks or sudden changes.
What You’ll Bring
Proven experience in transport operations or depot management — ideally in fast‑paced, time‑sensitive sectors like poultry, fresh produce, perishables, or similar reactive supply chains.
Strong leadership skills to keep teams motivated and on track amid constant daily changes.
Outstanding problem‑solving and composure under pressure — you react fast and effectively without stress.
Excellent time management, communication, and organisational skills in a high‑energy environment.
Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office); hands‑on experience with TMS and dispatch software is essential.
Solid understanding of heavy vehicle compliance, CoR, and NHVR requirements.
HC or MC licence.
What We Offer
Competitive salary package (negotiable based on experience).
Full‑time permanent position with immediate start.
Close‑knit, supportive team in a stable, family business with genuine long‑term career.
The reward of leading a vital daily operation that keeps fresh product flowing reliably across the supply chain.
