Senior Research Engineer / Scientist - Ion-trap chips (all genders) // Job-ID: 176-1

We are looking for an experienced research engineer to lead the development of ion-trap chips (ITCs) at SAL. You will be part of a highly motivated, international team dedicated to building the foundational components of next-generation quantum technology. Your work will be integrated into an international collaborative network.

* Coordinate ITC development and fabrication across various research units and cleanroom facilities.
* Perform small-scale fabrication and prototyping of ITC devices in cleanroom facilities using 200 mm wafer-level technology.
* Coordinate testing of developed ITC devices.
* Co-develop the design, fabrication, and technological advancements of ion trap chips.
* Conduct quality control and document the statistical process control.
* Communicate and report research findings to scientific and non-scientific audiences.
* Collaborate with industry and academic partners.
* Engage in project management and R&D project acquisition.


Your profile

* PhD in physics, quantum technology, electronics engineering, or a related field.
* Over 3 years of experience in semiconductor manufacturing and trapped-ion quantum technology.
* Experience in an industrial environment is advantageous.
* Proficiency in English; knowledge of German or willingness to learn is beneficial.
* Motivated team player with strong communication skills.
* Willing to relocate to Austria/Villach.
* Willing to travel.

This position is classified under the Collective Agreement for non-university research employees (Research CA), starting at occupational group F (F1 salary = EUR 4,757/month, paid 14 times/year), based on a 38.5-hour workweek. The minimum salary offered is EUR 70,000 annually, with additional benefits depending on experience and qualifications.
