Our family owned SMB has for more than 65 years supported Australia’s over‑road, earth‑moving, 4WD, agricultural, and stationary engine industries with engine components sourced from leading global manufacturers. We are seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to lead our 3‑person Purchasing Department and ensure profitable, strategic stock management that supports our National Sales Team and continued business growth.
About the Role
As Purchasing Manager, you will take ownership of stock planning, supplier relationships, and procurement strategy. Working closely with Product Development, Finance, and Sales, you will ensure optimal inventory levels while maintaining strong supplier partnerships and commercial outcomes. This is a senior, hands‑on role requiring commercial judgement, attention to detail, and strong industry knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
* Maintain optimal and profitable stock levels across the business.
* Forecast demand and manage purchasing decisions accordingly.
* Negotiate pricing, terms, and supply agreements.
* Manage relationships with international and domestic suppliers.
* Coordinate product selection, purchase volumes, pricing, and timing.
* Utilize the Momentum Pro ERP system to drive data‑based purchasing decisions.
* Identify and evaluate new supply opportunities aligned with Product Development and Sales criteria.
* Work with Product Development to review samples and assess quality standards.
* Undertake international travel (typically once annually) to strengthen global supplier partnerships.
* Liaise with customs agents to monitor inbound shipments.
* Ensure correct tariff classifications and compliance with import requirements.
About You
* Proven Procurement Experience – This is not an entry‑level role; prior purchasing experience is essential.
* Diesel Engine Knowledge (Desirable) – Strong understanding of diesel engine components and their applications.
* High Attention to Detail – Strong numeracy skills and accuracy in managing purchasing data.
* Independent Drive with Team Collaboration – Ability to work autonomously while contributing positively to a team environment.
* Computer & ERP Proficiency – Comfortable working with business systems and learning new platforms.
Full training will be provided to ensure you are confident with our internal systems and processes.
Location
The preferred location is our Head Office in Dalby, Queensland. Alternatively, a suitably qualified candidate may be based at our Brisbane (Carole Park) warehouse, with occasional travel to Dalby required.
