We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated MEP Design Manager for Data Centre Constructions (m/f/d) for our Data Center Business Unit in Vienna, Austria. Start ASAP.
Tasks and Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the MEP design development process in collaboration with design consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
* Oversee the preparation and coordination of detailed MEP design packages, ensuring alignment with data center requirements (including power density, cooling loads, redundancy, and scalability).
* Review and validate designs for compliance with local building codes, data center standards (e.g., Uptime Institute Tier Certifications, ASHRAE), and client specifications.
* Conduct value engineering exercises to optimize performance and cost without compromising design integrity.
* Coordinate closely with architectural, structural, and civil design teams to ensure fully integrated building systems.
* Monitor MEP design progress against project timelines and identify/mitigate risks or delays.
* Manage design change control, RFIs, and ensure design intent is maintained through construction.
* Provide technical leadership during construction, including responding to design queries, reviewing submittals/shop drawings and supporting commissioning activities.
* Ensure sustainability and energy efficiency targets are met, working with relevant certification schemes (LEED, BREEAM, etc.).
* Interface with client representatives, attend project meetings, and prepare status reports.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline; Master’s preferred.
* Chartered Engineer or working towards (e.g., CEng, PE).
* Ideally at least 8–10 years of experience in MEP design, with multiple years in data centre projects.
* Strong understanding of critical infrastructure systems including power distribution, backup systems, HVAC, and fire protection.
* Experience with BIM, Revit, Navisworks, and AutoCAD.
* Excellent project management, communication, and leadership skills.
* Familiarity with international data centre standards (TIA-942, Uptime Institute, etc.).
