D&N Geotechnical is a privately owned consultancy established in Canberra in 2017. We have grown into a trusted advisor on major infrastructure and development projects, with offices in Canberra, Brisbane (since 2022) and Sydney (since early 2024), supporting clients across eastern Australia. We focus on practical, cost‑effective and performance‑based solutions, with an emphasis on robust design, early stakeholder engagement and clear communication of risk. Our client base includes government agencies, renewable energy developers, utilities providers, Tier 1 engineering consultants and major contractors. D&N maintains ISO‑certified systems for Quality (ISO 9001), Occupational Health and Safety (ISO 45001) and Environmental Management (ISO 14001).


About the Role

People & Capability Manager – lead end‑to‑end people operations, performance systems and succession planning within a growing consultancy. This is an outcomes‑driven role focused on building scalable people systems, not an administrative HR position.


Key Responsibilities

* Own and operate end‑to‑end HR for the business (policies, processes, employee lifecycle and compliance).
* Build and maintain a forward‑looking workforce plan aligned to project pipeline, utilisation and growth targets.
* Maintain an active register of future hires, critical role gaps and a live candidate pipeline.
* Drive proactive recruitment: sourcing strategy, selection process, interview packs, offers and onboarding.
* Develop and maintain succession plans for key roles, prioritising internal development and promotion.
* Run the performance system end‑to‑end: PDs, KPIs, review cadence, calibration and evidence‑based promotion readiness.
* Support managers to manage performance (including underperformance) using clear process, documentation and timelines.
* Implement and maintain onboarding and role transition processes that reduce ramp time and improve consistency.
* Maintain training and CPD tracking, including professional registration / chartership pathways and evidence capture.
* Support remuneration reviews through consistent bands, role clarity and performance evidence.
* Maintain HR reporting dashboards: headcount, turnover, retention risk, time‑to‑hire, internal promotion rate and capability gaps.
* Coordinate employee relations matters with a practical, compliant approach and clear documentation.
* Drive culture initiatives that improve accountability, feedback quality and retention.
* Maintain core people records/registers (training matrix, performance register, promotion evidence register, succession register).


Qualifications & Experience

* Demonstrated experience in HR, workforce planning, performance management and talent pipeline management.
* Experience in engineering, consulting or construction environments highly regarded.
* Proven ability to implement or improve operational people systems (not just advise).
* Strong analytical capability and confidence using dashboards, registers and structured reporting.
* High standard of documentation and governance discipline.
