Job Description – Internship – Quantitative Energy Systems Analysis

Organizational Setting
The Division of Energy Planning, Information and Knowledge Management includes the Planning and Economic Studies Section. The Division supports energy and nuclear power planning, capacity building for nuclear knowledge management, and the provision of nuclear science and technology information to member states.
Main Purpose
Support the development of analytical tools and case studies to explore optimal pathways to achieving net‑zero carbon emissions through a systems‑cost approach, with a focus on the quantitative role of nuclear energy.
Functions / Key Results Expected
* Support analytical insights into the cost‑optimal role of nuclear energy.
* Assist with technical reporting and data visualization.
* Assistance in stakeholder management and outreach.
Qualifications and Experience
* University degree in Engineering, Economics, or a related field.
* Strong analytical skills and familiarity with quantitative methods.
* Ability to manage data using spreadsheets or other databases.
* Experience in optimisation, simulation, and economic analysis is an asset.
* Experience in Nuclear Energy System Assessment Methods, Nuclear Energy System Economic Analysis, or Nuclear Energy System Modelling and Analysis is an asset.
Applicant Eligibility
* Minimum age 20 years.
* Completed at least three years of full‑time university studies towards a first degree.
* May apply up to one year after completion of a bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate degree.
* Must not have previously participated in the IAEA internship programme.
* Good written and spoken English essential; fluency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish or Russian) an asset.
* Must attach two signed letters of recommendation.
