At the heart of Red Bull's global sports universe is the Sports Data Platform (SDP), the technical foundation that turns data into a competitive advantage. We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to play a central role in building and shaping this platform. This is a unique opportunity to own and evolve a critical data system that serves Red Bull's sports and athletes worldwide.
As the lead technical expert for the platform, your role is to be both the architect and a key builder. You are responsible for shaping the roadmap for our next-generation data systems and overseeing the code and quality for critical enhancements. Success in this position means delivering high-quality, scalable technical solutions that empower our data science and analytics stakeholders, all while working in close partnership with teams across the business.

1. As a Senior Data Engineer, you own the technical blueprint for the platform's future. This involves designing solutions, documenting them clearly, and driving the key architectural discussions to ensure alignment across teams.
2. You are responsible for the technical steering of our external development partners, setting engineering standards, performing code reviews, and ensuring their work integrates seamlessly and meets our high bar for quality.
3. In this role, you work closely with our Data Science team and other business stakeholders to understand their needs and translate them into a clear, actionable technical roadmap.
4. You own and drive the complete technical lifecycle of our core data platform, ensuring that pipelines, processing frameworks, and platform services continuously mature in scalability, resilience, and enterprise readiness as demand grows.
5. You act as a senior technical counterpart to product management, data science, and business leaders, shaping architectural decisions and ensuring transparency on platform capabilities, constraints, and trade-offs.
In addition, you help steer the delivery of strategic initiatives by aligning stakeholders, clarifying scope, and ensuring execution remains consistent with technical direction.
6. A minimum of 6 years of experience in a data engineering role.
7. Fluency in both German and English.
8. Strong Partnership and Collaboration Skills: You have a proven ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Given the international nature of this role, strong experience collaborating directly with data analysts and data scientists across different regions and sports is essential for success.
9. Expert-Level Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of modern data modeling, ETL/ELT development, and data warehousing principles.
10. Proven GCP Expertise: Significant hands-on experience building and deploying data platforms on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Deep proficiency with BigQuery is essential.
11. A Proactive, Responsible and Positive Mindset: A track record of taking ownership of complex technical projects and seeing them through to successful completion. You are a pragmatic problem-solver who anticipates challenges and takes initiative, with a “can-do” attitude and culture that we live for at Red Bull IT.
12. Project Experience: Proven track record of large-scale project involvement and solutions across complex business domains.
13. Partners and vendors: Experience in dealing with sourcing partners, vendors and suppliers, and involvement in multi-stream, complex activities across several external partner teams, tracking success and progress via engineering metrics such as Velocity, Burndown, Capacity Mgmt, Planning and Engineering Forecasting.
14. Governance and Policies: Experience in data science and data engineering governance, policies and oversight.
15. Bonus Points for: Experience with data transformation tools, especially dbt, workflow management tools like Dagster, Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Terraform.
