The Kooperativ Ternitz (Cooperative Ternitz) project is organising an artist-in-residence programme (AIR) in spring/summer 2026. It takes place in a former workers’ settlement in Ternitz in Lower Austria/AT. Under the motto ‘Kooperative Dreiersiedlung’ (Cooperative Dreiersiedlung), artists and cultural professionals from various disciplines who are interested in supporting the transformation process of the Dreiersiedlung with artistic impulses are invited to apply.
A total of three 10-week residencies will take place on site in Ternitz between mid-April and the end of June 2026. The artists will be accommodated in the Dreiersiedlung and will have access to local infrastructure, such as the ‘Volkshaus’, which is to be used more intensively as a community centre in the future. As cooperatively designed art residencies, they will be supported during their stay by the project team and the municipality of Ternitz.
The residency is looking for artists who are interested in using local narratives and/or the current transformation process in the settlement as a starting point for their work. Moreover, for those who are willing to open their artistic practice to residents and neighbours. The aim is to provide contemporary artistic impetus on site that supports the multifaceted transformation process of the Dreiersiedlung and makes cooperative potential visible and accessible. Contributions involving local initiatives, associations, artists, and cultural workers are very welcome.
The artists will receive
* a grant of 2,300 EUR (net) for the duration of the residency from mid-April to the end of June 2026 (10 weeks)
* accommodation at Dreiersiedlung (one flat is suitable for artists with children, among others)
* a work or rehearsal space, depending on needs and availability
* a budget of 1,000 EUR per artist is provided for the implementation of projects and work
* travel expenses are reimbursed up to 700 EUR per participant, with the project team emphasising environmentally sustainable travel to and from the venue and preferring public transportation
