About the Role

We are seeking a Casual Support Worker to work in our Women's Refuge which operates on a 24/7 basis.

As a Support Worker you will work in a trauma informed way to liaise with Support Coordinators and provide capacity building support as determined by the client’s recovery goals.

This position provides support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women escaping family and domestic violence (FDV) with complex needs, through crisis accommodation in a women’s refuge. The role requires familiarity and knowledge as well as understanding of diversity, gender and social inclusion, particularly Aboriginal culture. This role is an opportunity to provide crisis assistance including support in mental health and homelessness. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of intersecting mental health, drug and alcohol and domestic violence issues.

This casual position is available for candidates who identify as female, in accordance with Section 27 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 .


What we’re looking for

* Completion of or progress towards a relevant qualification (Certificate II/III, and/or relevant work and/or lived experience.
* Ability to engage with individuals within different levels of needs and build and maintain a professional relationship.
* Ability to work independently and contribute to the functioning of the team.
* Ability to model positive behaviors, emotional maturity, coping skills and resilience.
* Good interpersonal and effective communication skills.
* Understanding of basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and client reporting system.
* Willingness and ability to work within and contribute to the vision, mission, core values and the guiding principles of the organisation.
