Overview
Master-Thesis "Model-Based Process Monitoring and Optimisation of Quality Features in High-Pressure Die-Casting" role at AIT Austrian Institute of Technology. The Center for Vision, Automation & Control in Vienna invites applications for a Master Thesis in the research unit “Complex Dynamical Systems” focused on modelling, simulation, analysis and optimisation, as well as control of complex industrial systems and processes to enhance product quality, increase flexibility, and boost resource efficiency. The lighthouse project AI Enabled Sustainable Automation develops methods and technologies to enable zero-defect manufacturing in high-pressure die-casting. In this Master Thesis, the aim is to model, monitor and optimise the quality of die-cast parts to reduce scrap and improve resource efficiency.
Location: Vienna, Austria. The project involves interdisciplinary collaboration in a team of engineers and scientists and offers exposure to international research environments.
Responsibilities
* The main goal of this master’s thesis is to develop a strategy for process monitoring and optimisation (optional).
* Under the guidance of an interdisciplinary team, conduct a literature search, develop data-driven models for quality features depending on machine settings and variables, and design a model-based strategy for process monitoring and optimisation.
* Gain knowledge in quality control and analyse multimodal data (e.g., rational data, time-series data, images).
* Implement mathematical models and monitoring/optimisation algorithms in Python or MATLAB.
* Accumulate experience in a research field addressing the triple transition and collaborate with an international team of engineers and scientists.
Qualifications
* Ongoing master’s studies in Automation & Control, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics or Mathematics.
* Excellent programming skills in Python; knowledge of MATLAB is a plus.
* First experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow is beneficial.
* Strong technical understanding and analytical capabilities.
* Interest in industry-focused, application-oriented questions.
* High level of commitment and team spirit.
* Good knowledge of German and/or English (written and spoken).
What To Expect
* Duration of the master’s thesis project: 6 months.
* Start date: as soon as possible.
* EUR 603.04 gross per month for 12 hours/week based on the collective agreement. As a research institution, we support master theses and welcome your application.
