About the role
As a Tech Lead Manager at Cropster, you will be at the heart of our product development, guiding a dedicated team of software engineers to build exceptional products while also nurturing their professional growth. You will be the dedicated software engineering leader for one of our product teams, forming a tight-knit leadership trio with your counterparts in Product Management and Design. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will also be a key partner in shaping and executing our overall engineering strategy and processes.
This is a hands-on leadership role that combines people management, technical strategy, and deep product collaboration. You will shape not only what we build but how we build it, leading by example and fostering a culture of open communication, technical excellence, and continuous improvement that empowers your team to deliver outstanding value to our customers.
Preferred locations for this role are Innsbruck or Vienna, with flexibility for hybrid work.
What you'll do
People Leadership & Mentorship
* Lead & Grow: Directly manage a team of software engineers, fostering their career development through continuous coaching, constructive feedback, and personalized growth plans. You will learn about your team's strengths and growth areas through day-to-day project work, using that context to provide highly relevant and impactful feedback and mentorship.
* Balance Priorities: Consciously balance hands-on technical contributions with dedicated time for people management. We provide active mentorship and clear performance expectations that value both domains equally to help you grow as a leader.
* Build Culture: Cultivate a positive and inclusive team environment where communication is candid, collaboration is seamless, and engineers feel motivated and empowered.
* Align & Empower: Ensure your engineers understand the "why" behind their work, connecting their contributions directly to product strategy and customer impact. Delegate tasks effectively, define responsibilities, and monitor progress to ensure team success.
* Hire & Onboard: Play a key role in hiring, and onboarding new engineering talent to continuously raise the bar for your team.
Technical & Product Strategy
* Own Technical Decisions: Drive and own the technical decisions within your team, ensuring they align with the broader product strategy and long-term technical vision, as well as the right balance between technical excellence and speed of delivery.
* Partner with Product & Design: Act as the primary technical partner for your Product Manager and Product Designer counterparts. Engage deeply in the opportunity discovery and solution design processes to provide technical insights, assess feasibility, and propose innovative solutions.
* Coordinate & Collaborate: Work closely with the other Tech Lead Managers and the Head of Engineering to align on shared objectives, tackle concerns affecting different teams, and ensure a cohesive engineering standard across the organization.
We are looking for someone with
* Proven hands-on software engineering experience, preferably with expertise in relevant core technologies (e.g., Java, JavaScript, React).
* Demonstrated experience in people management, including coaching, mentorship, and performance management.
* Strong understanding of product development lifecycles and the ability to translate customer needs and business strategy into technical solutions.
* Experience coordinating cross-team technical initiatives and managing technical dependencies.
* Ability to act as a connector between technical and non-technical stakeholders, clearly translating needs and challenges.
* Commitment to building strong working relationships and to writing clean, maintainable, and scalable code.
* Proactive approach to problem-solving, continuous improvement, and removing blockers for the team.
* Ability to engage in constructive conflict, build consensus, and "disagree and commit" when needed.
* Exceptional communication skills, with a practice of actively giving and seeking constructive feedback.
* Belief in the value of diverse perspectives and commitment to fostering an inclusive and collaborative team environment.
