Overview
At the University of Vienna almost 11,000 personalities work together towards answering the big questions of the future. We are looking for a University Assistant Postdoctoral researcher in the 34 Faculty of Law. Start date: 01.07.2026. Working hours: 20 per week. Collective bargaining agreement: 48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc). Duration: 4 years. Reference no.: 5761.
Your Team and Focus
You will join the research team led by Professor Michael Waibel. Our research and teaching focus on International Law and International Economic Law. The team currently consists of 1 postdoctoral researcher, 5 doctoral researchers (prae‑doc), and 1 administrative staff member.
Your Tasks and Responsibilities
* Active participation in research, teaching, and administration within international law, with the aim to develop an internationally visible research profile through publications in academic journals and conference presentations.
* Independently teach courses in accordance with the collective labor agreement.
* Contribute to editing the European Journal of International Law and collaborate with Co-Editor-in-Chief Professor Michael Waibel.
* Contribute to the team’s international research projects.
* Undertake administrative duties in research and teaching and assist in organising conferences.
Your Profile and Qualifications
* Aim to pursue an academic career.
* A completed doctoral degree in international law when the employment commences.
* Generalist knowledge of international law, not limited to one subfield.
* Teaching experience in international law, especially in English, with demonstrated excellence in teaching (teaching evaluations).
* An established research profile with at least one publication in a leading international academic journal.
* Experience with research projects in international law and willingness to contribute to larger research projects.
* Excellent command of English, both spoken and written.
* Team player with strong social and communication skills; ability to mentor doctoral candidates.
* Independent and structured working style with strong organisational skills.
* Additional experience (e.g., work experience in a law firm or international organisations; further academic degrees) is an advantage.
* Experience in editing a journal or book is an advantage.
* Knowledge of German is an advantage.
