What You’ll Do
Lead night operations at one of Melbourne’s largest and busiest transport hubs, servicing 750+ customers and managing around 2,700 freight spaces daily. This high-volume operation spans road and rail transport, integrated warehouse operations, and major FMCG customers within national supply networks.
We’re seeking a resilient, hands‑on leader who thrives in fast‑paced, complex environments and can unite cross‑functional teams to keep freight moving safely and on time.
As Nightshift Operations Manager, you’ll take ownership of night operations managing up to 60 local pick‑up‑delivery and 60 linehaul trucks per shift, whilst leading allocators, drivers, and warehouse teams, with support from the Senior Operations Team.
What You Bring
* Lead and manage all aspects of daily nightshift transport operations, ensuring freight moves safely, efficiently, and in line with daily timeslots and customer service standards.
* Drive short, medium, and long‑term operational planning, including effective labour and resource scheduling to meet forecast demand and deliver consistent on‑time performance.
* Lead and support nightshift teams, ensuring safe, efficient, and high‑performing operations.
* Create a strong performance culture through clear expectations, coaching, and feedback.
* Ensure compliance with NHVR regulations, fatigue laws, and safety standards.
* Coordinate fleet, freight movement, labour, and warehouse resources to meet nightly operational demands.
* Respond to operational challenges in real time, making sound decisions under pressure.
* Drive continuous improvement across processes, productivity, service levels, and team capability.
