Organizational setting
The Department of Management (MT) provides a platform of services that supports delivery of the IAEA's scientific and technical programmes. Its mission includes acting as a partner and business enabler, championing change and efficiency, and supporting recruitment, procurement, translation, and distribution of Board documents to Member States.
To facilitate the exchange of information relevant to the IAEA's work, the Division of Conference and Document Services (MTCD) coordinates activities for internal and external users, issuing documents in six official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish) and editing, printing and distributing publications.

Language Services
The MTCD Language Services Section (LSS) coordinates, manages and delivers language services, maintaining language standards through editing and translation of policy documents, correspondence, web content and publications. The Arabic Language Service is one of six language teams and handles drafting, editing and translation into Arabic, often under short deadlines.
Main purpose
Reporting to the Section Head, the Head of the Arabic Language Service revises and, when required, drafts, edits and translates a range of administrative, legal, economic, scientific and technical content. The role has overall responsibility for all Arabic language matters, including talent identification, training freelancers, and ensuring high quality and timely delivery of Arabic content.
Role
Plan and coordinate the work of the Arabic Language Service team (professional staff and freelancers); assess competence of team members and new talent. Provide input on linguistic competence assessments for staff and freelancers, and revise, edit or translate content as required. Check Arabic language work for accuracy, completeness, clarity, style and presentation, and serve as a substantive expert in subject matter and Arabic language knowledge.

* Plan and coordinate the work of the Arabic Language Service team.
* Revise content in Arabic produced by other staff and freelancers across scientific, technical, administrative and legal subjects.
* Draft, translate and edit content as required.
* Make authoritative terminology and language decisions, including assessing competence of staff and freelancers.
* Provide input on linguistic competence assessments for proofreading tasks within the Multilingual Output Production Team and for new talent.
* Provide training and guidance to the Arabic Language Service team and to the Multilingual Output Production Team as needed.

Required expertise

* Translating: translate from English to Arabic.
* Translation Support Tools: knowledge of translation tools (e.g., CAT tools).
Qualifications, experience and language skills
* Advanced university degree (Master) in translation, languages or related field; or Bachelor’s degree with two additional years of relevant experience.
* Minimum 10 years of relevant professional translation experience.
* Experience supervising translator teams is an asset.
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office and IT translation tools, particularly Trados Studio and MultiTerm.
* Excellent oral and written command of Arabic and English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages is an asset.
Remuneration
The IAEA offers an attractive package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $101,540 (pension and health deductions apply), a variable post adjustment (currently US $55,339), dependent benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses, plus 6 weeks of annual leave, home leave travel, pension plan and health insurance.
