Background
The Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC) is an independent civil society organization, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, with offices in Austria, South Africa, Colombia and Malta, and a globally dispersed Secretariat working in around 41 countries. GI-TOC comprises a network of more than 700 independent global and regional experts working on human rights, democracy, governance, and development issues where organized crime has become increasingly pertinent. GI-TOC provides a platform to promote greater debate and innovative approaches as the building blocks to an inclusive global strategy against organized crime. GI-TOC commissions and shares research globally; curates a robust resource library of 2,000 reports and tools specific to organized crime; and uses its convening power to unite both the private and public sectors against organized crime.
The GI-TOC works to:
* identify, analyse and map criminal trends and shifts in regional instability, and their impact on illicit flows, governance, development, security, conflict and the rule of law;
* connect and empower civil‑society actors across the region who are looking at issues related to organized crime and corruption, and their links to instability and conflict;
* support local stakeholders/actors in their monitoring of national dynamics and wider regional and international organized-crime and insecurity trends.
Job Summary
The GI-TOC requires a Multilateral Engagement Officer to support the work of the GI-TOC's multilateral engagement team, based in Vienna, to support coordination of the organization's engagement in UN settings in Vienna.
Main responsibilities and specific tasks
* Attendance, monitoring and analysis of relevant UN meetings and processes taking place in Vienna or remotely
* Mapping and prioritizing upcoming events and processes
* Coordinating GI-TOC organization of and participation in events, including liaison with GI-TOC staff, Permanent Missions, the UN, and providing logistical support to GI-TOC team members when visiting Vienna for multilateral meetings
* Supporting GI-TOC's preparation for and participation in the 15th UN Crime Congress, which takes place in April 2026, and other events throughout the year
* Producing written analysis for internal and external purposes
* Producing content for communications output, and being the team's liaison with the GI-TOC communications team
* Supporting the broader work of the GI-TOC as required
Requisite skills and experience
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following experience and skills:
* Excellent English language skills, other UN languages desirable
* Excellent writing and analytical skills
* Organized, self‑starter, able to work flexibly and with diverse stakeholders
* Able to represent an organization in international settings professionally and discretely
* Proficient with Microsoft package
* Able to produce content for online communications
* Experienced in external engagement, and knowledge of the key policy debates around organized crime at the UN
