The main purpose of the internship is to support the gamma-spectrometry laboratory at the Terrestrial Environmental Radiochemistry (TERC) Laboratory. This includes performing measurements of environmental samples and supporting quality assurance activities.
Functions / Key Results Expected
1. Assist in the commissioning of gamma-spectrometry instrumentation and evaluation of analysis software at the TERC Laboratory
2. Perform measurements of candidate reference materials including two new IAEA reference materials and contribute towards the final technical reports.
3. Support proficiency test activities including the characterisation of samples sent to participating laboratories.
4. Support quality assurance activities including those relevant to ISO17034.
5. Produce a presentation detailing all work undertaken.
Qualifications and Experience
6. University degree in Physics or a related Scientific discipline
7. The ability to work within a laboratory and undertake analytical tasks is required
8. Knowledge of radiometrology techniques including gamma-spectrometry is required
9. Excellent written and spoken English essential; fluency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is an asset.
Applicant Eligibility
10. Candidates must be a minimum of 20 years of age and have completed at least three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree.
11. Candidates may apply up to one year after the completion of a bachelor's, master's or doctorate degree.
12. Candidates must not have previously participated in the IAEA's internship programme.
13. Good written and spoken English essential; fluency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish or Russian) an asset.
14. Candidates must attach two signed letters of recommendation to their application.
