About The Role
As a Data Science Engineer, you will work closely with Trading, Technology, Product, and Analytics Engineering to design, develop, implement, and maintain quantitative models that support our trading operations. Reporting to the Lead Data Scientist, this role combines applied mathematics and statistical modelling with practical engineering skills to ensure models operate effectively in production environments, including real‑time trading systems. The successful candidate will have a collaborative mindset, an interest in building robust systems rather than one‑off analyses and the desire to see models function reliably in live environments.
Role Responsibilities
* Build and maintain quantitative models to support pricing, risk management, and trading decisions.
* Perform exploratory analysis and feature engineering to improve model accuracy and stability.
* Develop automation components that support model execution and continuous improvement.
* Implement models in production, writing maintainable, production‑grade Python code with appropriate testing and version control.
* Deploy models into real‑time and batch trading systems, including containerised environments (e.g., Kubernetes) or platform‑approved runtimes.
* Monitor model behaviour in production, including accuracy drift, data issues, and system performance.
* Work with Technology and Platform teams to ensure reliable release, rollback, and runtime operation of models.
* Collaborate with Analytics Engineering to consume validated, production‑ready datasets and surface any data issues detected during model execution.
* Contribute to model validation cycles, incorporate trader feedback, and iterate based on measurable performance.
* Adhere to team engineering standards, coding practices, and CI/CD processes to support consistent and reliable model deployment.
Required Skills & Experience
* Strong aptitude in applied mathematics, statistics, or a related quantitative discipline.
* Proficiency in Python, with experience writing maintainable, production‑quality code.
* Proficiency in SQL and experience working with analytical data platforms (e.g., Databricks).
* 2+ years in a Data Science Engineer role is preferred.
* Hands‑on experience building statistical or machine‑learning models in a commercial or applied setting.
* Understanding of software engineering fundamentals such as version control, testing, and deployment practices.
* Experience integrating models into production systems or containerised environments is advantageous.
* Understanding of sports betting, trading systems, or customer behaviour is beneficial.
* Logical, analytical approach to problem solving.
* Strong organisational and communication skills.
