Overview
You are responsible for sourcing, writing, and producing compelling journalism at The Advertiser tailored for a South Australian audience.
Your task involves finding exclusive angles on the most significant stories from around the state and proactively chasing down leads to secure unique perspectives that will be followed by others. Covering both national and global breaking news is an essential aspect of your role. Utilise social media to stay updated on trending topics and generate fresh story ideas. Your role includes pitching and delivering distinctive content that stimulates discussions, encourages engagement, and promotes reader engagement and audience growth. Employ analytics to make informed decisions about future story selections, ensuring new insights on popular subjects. You will be expected to work some weekend shifts and occasionally outside of regular hours to provide coverage for special events.
Responsibilities
* Source, write and produce compelling journalism tailored for a South Australian audience in The Advertiser.
* Find exclusive angles on major stories from around the state and proactively chase leads to secure unique perspectives.
* Cover national and global breaking news as part of the role.
* Utilise social media to monitor trends and generate fresh story ideas.
* Pitch and deliver distinctive content that stimulates discussion, encourages engagement, and supports reader growth.
* Utilise analytics to inform future story selections and maximise reach and impact.
* Work occasional weekends and outside regular hours to cover special events.
Qualifications
* Minimum of five years of experience in a digital newsroom.
* Proven track record in breaking news reporting and securing exclusive perspectives.
* Strong writing skills with ability to craft attention-grabbing headlines and visuals.
* Robust network of contacts that facilitate breaking major stories.
* Sound legal knowledge and ability to work independently and source stories.
* Understanding of SEO principles and analytics to optimise content for reach and impact.
