Who are we?
The British Embassy Vienna is part of a network, representing British political interests overseas. We are currently looking for a Security Officer to work within the team at the British Embassy.
Main purpose of job :

The successful applicant will work collaboratively within an experienced team to ensure the safety and security of staff, their families, and visitors at the British Embassy Vienna. The role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to provide clear, practical advice on a range of security topics in line with established policies and procedures.
Roles and responsibilities :
The jobholder will contribute to the Embassy’s security operations as part of a team, including :
* Conducting security checks, including searches of personnel and vehicles, monitoring CCTV, operating the VHF radio network, responding to alarms, patrolling on foot, escorting visitors, and other security tasks as directed by the PSOM and RSA.
* Interacting with staff, visitors, and members of the public in a professional, respectful, and courteous manner.
* Scanning and sorting incoming mail and deliveries.
* Maintaining accurate records and security logs.
* Supporting the Transport Department as a driver when required (valid Cat B driving licence essential).
* Responding to incidents calmly and professionally, participating in exercises, and engaging in learning and development activities to maintain knowledge of policies and procedures.
* Carrying out additional tasks as requested by the PSOM / RSA.
Health and Safety :
* Promote and adhere to Embassy policy, procedure and legislation, including but not limited to aspects relating to health and safety.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
Our Ideal Candidate shows :
* Proficient German (both written and spoken, minimum C1 level for CEFR framework);
* Good working knowledge of English (both written and spoken, minimum B2 level for CEFR framework);
* Minimum 2 years of experience in uniformed services, commercial, and / or private security;
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team;
* Knowledge of physical security barriers, relevant policies and procedures;
* Computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
* Hold a valid Category B driving licence;
* Problem-solving and decision-making ability under pressure;
* Customer-focused approach when dealing with staff and visitors.

This is a country based staff position at the British Embassy in Vienna; it is not a diplomatic designated position. The position is subject to the terms and conditions of British Embassy employees.
This is a full-time (35 hours per week) permanent contract. Shifts will fall into Monday to Friday from 0800-1700hrs daily, alternating within the team schedule for start and end times. Some additional work out of hours to cover visits, events, and transport are required and will be compensated with paid overtime.
Further flexible working or home office cannot be accommodated in this role, however applicants who are interested in part time hours should specify this for consideration. The minimum hours considered would be 17.5 however any consideration would depend on operational requirements and the advertised salary would be adjusted accordingly. This would be discussed further during the recruitment stage.
The annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year pro rata and the Embassy also enjoys 14 Austrian / UK public holidays per year and we are committed to ensuring a work / life balance. The cost of the Vienna yearly transport ticket is reimbursed (capped at 365 EUR and prorated for months in the role).
The monthly salary will be € 3,158 gross, payable 14 times a year. You will receive your salary minus social insurance deductions and are expected to comply with Austrian tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the Austrian authorities. However, in some cases you will receive an abated salary where dual taxation agreements apply. Further information will be given at the recruitment stage.
The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure they are legally able to work in Austria. The Embassy is not able to assist with any visa or sponsorship arrangements.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to terms and conditions service according to Austrian employment law.
Visa / Passport requirements : Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Austria and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure you meet the legal requirements to live and work in this country.
