About the Opportunity
Western Sydney University is seeking a Senior Finance Analyst to join the Finance Team to lead the development and delivery of strategic financial analysis, commercial forecasting, and business partnering across the organisation. The Senior Finance Analyst plays a critical role in supporting informed decision-making by providing expert financial insights, modelling, and recommendations that influence operational and strategic outcomes. The Senior Finance Analyst will address complex financial challenges, collaborate with senior stakeholders, and contribute to the financial sustainability and success of the University.
This is a full-time, ongoing position based at Western's Hawkesbury (Richmond) Campus, although travel to other campuses of the University may be required. For further information, please refer to the Position Description linked here: Senior Finance Analyst - Position Description.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Finance Analyst will be responsible for a broad range of impactful duties, including:
* Designing and implementing enterprise-wide financial models and analytics.
* Delivering comprehensive financial analysis to support strategic initiatives.
* Partnering with business units to provide commercial insights and recommendations.
* Preparing and presenting financial reports for senior management and executive teams.
* Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning processes.
* Identifying opportunities for process improvement and cost optimisation.
* Ensuring compliance with financial policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
* Collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve organisational goals.
* Contributing to the development of financial strategies and business cases.
* Providing mentorship and guidance to junior finance staff.
Who we're looking for
The ideal candidate for the Senior Finance Analyst role will demonstrate a blend of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and collaborative spirit. We are seeking someone who brings:
* Postgraduate qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline, with professional membership (e.g., CPA, CA) highly regarded.
* Extensive experience in strategic financial analysis, commercial evaluation, and performance reporting within a complex organisation, preferably in higher education or the public sector.
* Expertise in activity-based costing and financial modelling, with capability to lead enterprise-level analytical frameworks.
* Advanced proficiency in financial systems and tools (e.g., Excel, TM1, Oracle, Power BI), with strong understanding of automation, data governance, and reporting integrity.
* Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with proven ability to influence senior leaders and translate complex financial data into actionable insights.
* Demonstrated success in leading financial projects, managing competing priorities, and delivering outcomes in dynamic environments.

Remuneration Package: HEW Level 9 $159,739 to $170,588 p.a. (comprising Salary of $134,981 to $144,149 p.a., plus Superannuation and Leave Loading).
